New Jersey FOG & Grease Trap Rules

PVSC Requirements

• Install adequately sized grease traps or interceptors. Clean traps at least monthly, keep a cleaning log, inspect weekly, and obtain professional interceptor service at least every two months.
• Keep maintenance logs and manifests available for inspection. Retain interceptor-cleaning records for five years. Additives are prohibited unless approved.
• Annual FOG certification is required. PVSC’s annual monitoring fee is $90–$250 under the cited rate schedule, which notes a January 1, 2025 increase. Late certification can lead to enforcement action.
