Minneapolis businesses generating FOG must clean grease traps according to the manufacturer’s specifications and keep them at or below 25% full. The city is the contact for local requirements.
Metropolitan Council
Metropolitan Council BMP guidance calls for weekly cleaning of under-sink traps, routine interceptor cleaning, and a maintenance log recording cleaning frequency and volume. Its Waste Discharge Rules allow customer communities to adopt local grease-interceptor requirements that are at least as stringent as Council rules and the Minnesota Plumbing Code.
Saint Paul
Saint Paul permits outside gravity grease interceptors through the Department of Safety and Inspections. Commercial plumbing work requires a licensed plumbing contractor and applicable city permits. Saint Paul sewer specifications state that Metropolitan Council discharge rules govern sanitary-sewer discharges.
